There is not any
specific word for mineral and commonly the precious stones are
grouped under the tem Laaling. Different precious and semi
precious stones are mined in surrounding mountains of Hunza valley.
Among them are akumarlin (aquamarine), yaaqut (ruby),
zamarut (emerald), chhikas (garnet), neelum
(sapphire), firozza (turquoise) and hirra (diamond).
Different precious stones known are ghennish (gold) and
burri (silver). Rill (Copper) and burum shikark are also valued.
According to the local people, in Altit different
precious and semi-precious stones are mined on small scale from eight (8) different places
and they confirm about the presence of
kumarlin
(aquamarine), yaaqut (ruby), zamarut (emerald), and
quarts. |
