The Burushaski word
for pasture is ther and is commonly referred to the
summer grazing grounds and meadows in up mountains. The pastures of
Altit village locates just above and surroundings of the village. In
old time the local people were rearing a large number of Goats,
Sheep and other livestock. Thus with start of cultivation in village
during March and April some people from the village move the cattle
of their families and relatives to these pastures. The responsible
persons at pastures were collecting milk from cattle to
prepare Malthush (butter) and other products. However, with
modernization the number of cattle per households has decreased
sharply and majority of families now keep 2-5 cattle and not send
them to pastures.
