Pastures (ther)

The Burushaski word for pasture is ther  and is commonly referred to the summer grazing grounds and meadows in up mountains. The pastures of Altit village locates just above and surroundings of the village. In old time the local people were rearing a large number of Goats, Sheep and other livestock. Thus with start of cultivation in village during March and April some people from the village move the cattle of their families and relatives to these pastures. The responsible persons at pastures were collecting  milk from cattle to prepare Malthush (butter) and other products. However, with modernization the number of cattle per households has decreased sharply and majority of families now keep 2-5 cattle and not send them to pastures. Some of the pastures of the village are as below:

  1. Moyentas,

  2. Ghundeterr

  3. Theyshterr

  4. Khowt,

  5. Gurpee,

  6. Balditerr
