World Environment Day celebrated in Hunza on June 5, 2007.
Around 3500 people including elders, youth, man and women
participated in locally arranged programmes including walks,
speeches and presentations. The previous year moto ‘ keep
Hunza Clean’ was once again endorsed and the highlighted the
importance of healthy environment and asked the participants
to control on wall chalking and un-desirous slogans painted
on the walls.

On this day children from different schools and colleges,
boy scouts, girl guides, volunteers, political
representatives and professionals from all walks of life in
centre, lower and upper Hunza participated in this mega
event. Children displayed cards, banners and posters with
slogans about keeping environment clean, civil rights and
responsibilities, global warming, Islamic teaching, healthy
society etc. besides the above children delivered speeches,
sing songs and poems relevant to the day. Volunteers cleaned
their surrounding and disposed the solid waste under the set
environment friendly guidelines. The severe condition in
Sost was also identified. During the speeches the importance
of the role of Government and municipality was emphasized
that through regulatory body the conditions can be improved
even further in collaboration with the Government, civil
society and private sector.

Symbolic celebration of WED every year is a part of its
mission to educate people of all ages about keeping their
surrounding clean and global environmental issues so that
people from the area act as responsible global citizens.
Like previous years, KADO awarded certificates to active
participants, institutions and organization appreciating and
encouraging their role and importance for keeping
Environment clean and mankind friendly. |
